River Annan & District Salmon Fisheries Board Angling Competion

The River Annan & District Salmon Fisheries Board are are running a fly-fishing competition this spring and are looking for competitors. The competition will be fished on Saturday the 23rd and Sunday the 24th of March on the River Annan. The competition will be fished on a catch and release basis for Grayling (Brown Trout will also count) . The objective of the event is to raise the profile of the Annan post Foot & Mouth and to raise money to be used on improvement schemes. Prizes are being donated by local sponsors but the main aim of the weekend is for everyone to enjoy the fishing with the competition as an added incentive.

Rules:

The following rules will be enforced:

1-The competition is strictly fly only.
2-Only recognised fly-fishing tackle may be used.
3-3 fly max per cast.
4-Maximum fly size 10 std.
5-Only Grayling and Brown trout over 10 inches will count at 1 point per inch to anglers final score these measurements to be verified by either a marshal or another competitor (rainbow trout may be killed but will not count to your score).
6-An angler may not fish within 30 yards of another angler.

The competition will be fished on 2 separate beats an angler fishing beat one on Saturday and beat two on Sunday or vice-versa depending on the draw. Anglers will fish from 10 am to 4 pm both days, with the presentation taking place on the Sunday evening.

Cost per angler will be £30, this includes entry fees and permits for both days. All money raised from this event will go to the River Annan District Salmon Fisheries Board and will be used to expand the habitat improvements programme.
