Fishing
and Thinking by AA Luce
Reviewed by Terry Lawton
Also
received, from Swan Hill, was a new facsimile edition of Fishing and Thinking
by AA Luce, with an introduction from his son. This book was first published
in 1959 and is an interesting and throught-provoking memoire of happy
days fishing in Ireland in the previous three or four decades.
Anyone who fishes in Ireland regularly will certainly enjoy it and, equally,
the first-time visitor should read it to find out what Ireland was like
in the '30s and '40s. It would also be very interesting to track-down
the places Dr Luce fished and see what they are like today.
I came across a reference to this book in an article of great fishing
books by a well-known angling journalist and writer who said that this
book is one of his favourites. While it is an interesting and enjoyable
book - it is certainly very well titled - I am not sure that I enjoyed
it that much. Perhaps I have missed some of its charm.
Fishing and Thinking by AA Luce. Published by Swan Hill at £16.99.
Hardback 191pp.
