IMPORTANT Visit the relaunched |
Europe's largest fly fishing showEurope's largest show, organised for fly fishers by fly fishers, is to be held again this year on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September. The Fly Fair is being held at Holidaycentre IJsselstein, Geldersedijk 26, 8052 SG Hattem, on the banks of the River IJssel, one of the most beautiful rivers in the Netherlands. Fly fishing for pike is the theme of the fair. The organising committee aims to give the Dutch or European way of fly fishing for pike a central place. There will be at least 100 fly tiers from around the world - possibly enough to make it into the Guinness Book of Records. The Fly Fair is known for having the world's best tiers present at the show, and they will be there. The Fly Fair tent will be about 2000 square metres in size and in it the fly fisherman will find all kinds of interesting items including information on travel, art, rarities and many different subjects. Casting lanes will be pegged out on the fields and the river bank. World-famous fly casters will be giving demonstrations as well as casting lessons. With the help of Beet-Sportvissersmagazine a very special casting clinic will be put together, with good prizes to be won. A major atrraction of the 1990 Fair is being re-introduced with many of the leading names in split cane rod building expected to attend. The organisers have not forgotten the "inner man" as "Only well-fed people will feel themselves at home". Food can be bought at several places around the Fair and there will be "blow out" on the Saturday night with "spits of pig", glittering lights, camp fires and live music including an Irish band. The Fair is open from 1030 until 1830 on the Saturday and from 100 to 1800 on Sunday. Entrance is Euro 12 and for those under 15 or over 65 Euro 7. A special two day voucher is available at a cost of Euro 20. Further information (in English and Dutch) on the Fly Fair, Fly Fair workshops and much more can be found at www.flyfair.nl |
