Farlows Auction in aid of the Countryside Alliance

Thursday 27th November 7.00-9.00pm

Charles Jardine, Director of CA’s Campaign For Angling introduces an auction to raise funds for an Education Programme for schoolchildren.

Bernard Cribbins, the auctioneer, will commence at 8.15pm. Lots include: fishing for 2 for Black Bass in Spain; rods on Loch Carenmore, The Tweed, Test, Itchen, Dever, Wye among many more. Tackle lots include a Sage rod, designed for the evening by Jerry Siem.

The auction is taking place at Farlows, Pall Mall, on Thursday November 27th with drinks starting at 7.00pm and the auction beginning at 8.15pm.

Lot 3 - A day’s magnificent chalk stream fishing for 2 rods on the unspoilt waters of the River Dever.

The Dever is one of the notable tributaries of the River Test in Hampshire and a stream that is one of the more productive in the land with plenty of big trout to be seen. The beat is over 1.5 miles long and the fishing requires tight, accurate casting. Lunch is provided. The lot is to be taken by consent with the owner at weekends through the 2004 season. Book early!

Lot 5 - Fly fishing and casting tuition for 2 days on the river Eden (Cumbria) for two rods.

A very rare chance to fish for salmon and grayling and receive one day’s tuition from two of England’s premiere fly fishing instructors, Glynn Freeman and Clive Mithelhill. The fishing will take place on the lower reaches of the river, renowned for its run of kelt in the Spring. The second day you will be fishing alone with a chance to put what you have learned to the test! To be taken between March 15th and April 30th, 2004 in conjunction with the donors. The River Wye is renowned for its free rising Brown and Rainbow trout and is one of the only rivers in the country with wild breeding Rainbows. Included in the lot is 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast for one couple in the famous fishing hotel, the Peacock Hotel at Rowsley. The Peacock is a wonderful 17th century hotel set in its own beautiful gardens.

Lot 19 - A week’s holiday and fishing in Carenmore in the heart of the Scottish Highlands! This is a very rare chance to enjoy total wilderness in one of Scotland’s most beautiful regions.

This romantic fishing lodge is situated on the West Coast some 2.5 hours from Inverness; you will then be picked up and taken by boat for 7 miles along Fionn Loch to the lodge which will take 6 people comfortably in 3 bedrooms. The lodge has no electricity but the Rayburn does provide plenty of hot water! Bedding is provided but you will need to bring food and drink for the week. Mobiles do work.

The fishing is on the wonderful Fionn loch for wild brown trout, including the famous Ferox trout which reach sizes of 20lb or more.

Lot 21 - A morning’s ratting for two in the company of the Master of the Burton!

This highly unusual lot consists of a day’s hunting for two, including accommodation the night before and a copious pre-hunting farmhouse breakfast followed by a mornings ratting involving dogs of all types - even poodles! - and is best described as chaotic hunting. To take place on a Sunday in February with hunting starting at 9.30 am and finishing at opening time!

Lot 26 - Fly fishing 'en famille' in Normandy over a long weekend; travel included

Family Fishing Holiday in Normandy for a family of four - or a fishing couple:  3 Nights in a charming 3 bedroom Normandy gite including return Transport - Dover/Calais by Sea France.  Plus 1 day for 2 rods on the River Risle and a further day for 2 rods at the River/Lake complex of Chaise Dieu du Theil. A very unusual opportunity to fish for black bass in a virtually unfished, highly productive 7 km lake set in a truly beautiful valley in Southern Spain. The bass provide first class sport and you can expect to land up to 15-20 per day, average weight of 2.5lb and up to 5lb – if you are up to it!

You will have 2 full days fishing and 3 nights in a country hotel on the lake side.
