Description

Matt black blank, black wrappings and all-black metal reel seat with twin locking rings. Single stripping ring and sensibly-sized American chrome snake rings. Smart silver-trimmed graphics. Half Wells handle.

One year warranty for material and production faults. Spare parts are priced very affordably, for example about £15-20 for a tip section. In Scandinavia customers can buy insurance that covers five years no questions asked, but that system is not yet in operation in the UK.

Testers' comments

Terry Lawton: Again this rod was a disappointment at first. But very much better second time around. Roll casting was not exceptional. This rod loaded very well and was well damped. It cast a 6# line well but my preference was a 7#. I thought that both Loops cast very much better with the heavier of the two recommended line weights although this one was better with the lighter line than the 8' 8" model. (Why the curious length?)

The reel seat held the reel firmly but it was a bit difficult to remove the reel. Although there was some filler in the handle, construction quality is generally very good.

All in all, this will make a very nice stillwater rod or a rod for bigger rivers. If you try a Loop Black Line, don't be put off if your initial reaction is less than fully enthusiastic. Try it again, it'll be worth it.

Richard Slaughter: Another crisp looking, well made and finished rod. It was well balanced with a comfortable handle. I felt the rod to have more of a tip action than the shorter Loop rod and slightly stiff. Both short and medium casts were no problem but long casts did need some work. With such a powerful rod, roll casts were easy and I managed a good turnover. I thought that the rod took a lot of line plus generated the line speed necessary to load properly.

Simon Lewin: Another well built rod. I think I'd describe the action as middle to tip. It was a fairly heavy rod to work with but the ability to cast a good distance and present the line well was very good. As with the smaller rod I really did like the build quality of this road - taking into account Terry's comments about the cork handle.
