Scierra Expedition Fishing Jacket

Reviewed by Terry Lawton

Terry Lawton has now worn his Scierra Expedition Fishing Jacket in anger! The first time was taking his dog for a walk and the second time fishing. See his updated field test.

Before a recent trip to Sweden to fish the LögdeÄlven again Svendsen Sports (UK) supplied me with a Scierra Expedition Fishing Jacket to field test. Before departure the weather forecast suggested that there were likely to be plenty of showers, conditions which would be ideal for testing the jacket. But summer arrived in northern Sweden and although I wore the jacket one morning in light drizzle, a full field test will have to wait until suitable weather conditions. For the short time that I wore it, the jacket was very comfortable. In the meantime a brief product description will have to suffice.

The jacket has two generous pockets on the front with large flaps held in place with Velcro and a D-ring alongside. There is another external pocket on the back and a D-ring. There is a full-length double flap which covers the front zip - held shut by Velcro - and this covers a zip which gives acces to an internal pocket. There are two lengths of elastic, with toggles, to adjust the hood (which has a good "peak") and a third round the bottom of the jacket. There are Velcro flaps to adjust wrist tension.

UPDATE:

Yes, at long last I have worn my Scierra Expedition Fishing Jacket in anger when taking my dog for a walk along the foreshore in a gale and driving rain. With everything done up, elastics pulled tight I kept very snug and dry. And I found some more pockets: there are two hand warmer pockets behind the outside front pockets and there is a further zipped pocket inside these two front pockets.

The next time I wore it was when it started raining when I was fishing. The cut and fit of the jacket was very good and did not limit casting or any other movements. It was very comfortable. However, I did feel that the cuffs might not prove to be fully watertight when fishing all day in heavy rain; there is a rather small and fiddly press stud to close the front flap and the main zip could be a bit bigger. But for the price, about £69, I have, so far, no serious complaints.

Although I don't particularly enjoy fishing in the rain, I will do my best to give the jacket a thorough test in heavy rain.

The jacket is available in four sizes from medium to XXL and is a pleasant dark green.

If the jacket is fully wind and waterproof, as the maker claims, then at a UK price of around £69, it will be an excellent buy.
