Snowbee
Fly Mate Vice
The start of the fishing season would normally signal the end of serious
winter fly tying. But with so many of us denied access to our favourite
waters, one thing that we can do is carry-on fly tying. If you are carrying-on
tying, you may like to consider buying a new vice.
Snowbee has a very good reputation for producing quality and practical
products at very sensible prices. Although the company's Fly-Mate rotational
fly vice was never expensive, it is now available at an even better price
- just £29 for the basic clamp model.
The high alloy tool steel jaws have two screws to tighten them and hold
hooks very positively. I thought at first that this system was a bit fiddly
- having used a lever lock system before (never a 100 per cent positive)
- but now that I am used to it, it is quick and completely fool-proof.
Being able to rotate and turn a fly at any angle - partly thanks to the
ball joint - while tying is a great help.
Latest prices for the Fly Mate vice are:
Fly-Mate clamp vice - standard £29
Fly-Mate clamp vice - with ball joint £39
Fly-Mate pedestal vice - standard £39
Fly-Mate pedestal vice - with ball joint £49
