Spin On line winder

Putting a new line and backing onto a spool or changing an existing line can be a fraught business often ending up with a pile of tangled line and backing on the floor. But a Swedish company has developed a device, the Spin On, to make changing lines much easier. The Spin On line winder is distributed worldwide by Snowbee.

The Spin On is supplied with a small spool, which can be used to store backing taken off a spool, as well as a spacer between the “leg” of the Spin On and a line spool, so that the spool does not rub against the “leg”. There is a small brass eye on the “leg” through which the line or backing should be lead.

The clever thing about the Spin On is that it has an adjustable brake so that you can apply the right amount of tension to the line to ensure that you wind it on to your spool as tightly as you want.

The gadget has a universal mounting clip so that it will fit a wide range of rod tube diameters. To get it to clip-on firmly enough to a travel rod will probably require putting the bottom two sections together; this is less of a problem with two-piece rods. The design of the mounting clip is not that clever as the Spin On can fall off your rod. It could be a bit more positive. But with a bit more use and practice, this should not be too much of a problem.

The Spin On line winder retails for £19.99 and is available from Snowbee or Snowbee stockists.
