Testers' comments
Peter Sutton: The Trident TL's are the Orvis flagship range and
are fitted with MVR (maximum vibration reduction) technology. This and
a more de luxe set of fittings and finish are the only differences between
the Trident and the Silver Label Rods. As with the Silver Label the size
and spacing of the rings is excellent as is the quality. Is it worth the
additional money?
This is a difficult question to answer and I suggest that both rods are
tried and a decision made on that basis.
Certainly the Trident is one of the smoothest casting and most accurate
rods I've ever used and displayed no noticeable vibration at all casting
real text book loops with nary a wiggle or wave to be seen.
This was another of my favourites.
Terry Lawton: I had the benefit of trying this rod after our official
testing when I was able to cast it in windier conditions. Casting accuracy
at short to medium distances was fantastic. I was able to hit targets
absolutely spot on. You could win any casting accuracy competition with
this rod. It gave great loop control although I struggled a bit with longer
cats. It had a very pretty wood reel seat insert and I thought that it
was a very much nicer rod than the Orvis 5 weight Tip-Flex
Summary
Fantastic accuracy and loop control. It was let down slightly because
of some poor quality varnishing and wrapping of the rings. 8/10
