Testers' comments
Terry Lawton: This rod was very well built if a little flashy.
Sadly the casting performance left a lot to be desired and does not live
up to the catalogue description: "Probably the finest and most versatile
travel rod ever made, bar none." Peter felt the tip to be at fault
but I felt that although the action was nice and progressive, there were
no guts in the butt section. This would, in my opinion, limit the rod
to small rivers and streams.
Peter Sutton: This was a beautifully built and finished rod with
a sensible matt finish and apart from a rather small stripping ring and
a somewhat thick cork handle (which could always be taken down to suit)
looked 'the business'.
Unfortunately that is where its attraction finished as far as I am concerned.
In use the rod felt vague and displayed more vibration than is acceptable
these days. The recovery speed of the tip seemed slow and this contributed
to the rods inability to throw a tight loop and shoot a decent length
of line in spite of trying various different casting techniques. It also
consistently gave a poor delivery often failing to turn over the end of
the line and the leader.
I have to say that I did not like this rod and was surprised to find as
poor a performer as this amongst the rods on test.
Summary
Well built but a poor performer. 5/10
