Testers' comments

Terry Lawton: This rod had a very pleasant feel and was less tiring than the Vision HDG. The rod was let down by the very plain wooden reel seat insert and the thread on the reel seat which was far too fine - it took an age to tightened it up. I know that the catalogue describes the reel seat insert as being "luxurious maple wood" but it looked more like a piece of plain deal. The snake guides were on the small side. Having said that, the build quality was very good and the rod felt very nice and was a pleasure to use. Loop control could have been better but a powerful rod that was easy to cast a good length of line. It was forgiving and a favourite rod.

Peter Sutton: This is a nicely made and finished rod with excellent ring size and spacing although the coating on the wrappings was a little bit thick and heavy for my taste. The rod also suffered slightly from indifferent quality corks in the handle which was also unusually shaped, although this wasn't apparent in use. I thought the reel fitting was of good quality and perfectly adequate for the job although the light coloured rather plain wood used didn't look as snazzy as some of the others. I understand the blanks for these rods are sourced in Japan and they are very light and perform well. In use the rod was very smooth with a nice lack of vibration and was spot on with the 6 weight line we used for the tests.

In spite of a slightly 'soft' feel, the rod cast a long line and 90' casts were achieved quite easily because of the high line speed and tight loops, which made shooting lots of line a breeze. The roll cast capability was quite acceptable.

Overall this is a very nice package at a fair price and as it is supplied through Guide Flyfishing you are assured of top notch after sales back-up.

Summary

A very nice package at a very fair price. 8 /10
