Testers' comments
Peter Sutton: This was another nice looking rod, light in the hand
and with good sized rings, apart from the lined stripping ring which was
heavy looking and on the small size, again the coating on the wrappings
was thick and blobby (a personal dislike of mine). The reel fitting was
a very nice carbon and stainless steel job and I was left wondering why
this wasn't fitted to the more expensive Extreme. The action was more
full than I tend to like with the rod bending well down into the butt,
loading easily with the 6 weight line which I felt was a good match. The
rod performed quite adequately and again 90' casts could be achieved.
Roll casts were very easy with this rod as it loads so easily. Many anglers,
especially novices and those who use a longer casting stroke, prefer a
fuller action rod which is easier to load deeply and is not too fast.
If you are one of those this could be the rod for you.
Overall an attractive rod at an attractive price with the assurance of
good back-up from Guide Flyfishing.
Terry Lawton: For me this rod had a powerful feel and it roll casts
very well. It had a heavier feel than some of the more expensive rods.
In my opinion this rod performed very similarly to the Greys' Pilgrim.
The guides could have been bigger. Typically eight out of ten for build
quality, rings, reel seat and handle and across the performance spectrum.
At next year's price of 130 this is rod is real value for money.
Summary
An attractive rod at an attractive price. 7/10
