The Wild Trout Society

" In an increasingly crowded and overdeveloped country more and more anglers are turning to wild trout - to experience the challenge of trying to catch them, and to experience the beautiful places in which they thrive.

This demand can only be met, however, if every water capable of sustaining wild trout is well looked after. That is what the Wild Trout Society is all about.

Through the coming together of all those who with to foster the interests of wild trout we will surely gain the strength to encourage more and more fishery owners, managers and clubs to adopt policies that will maintain and improve our wild trout waters, whether river or lake. Through the active involvement of committed members we can bring together the knowledge and expertise to achieve this aim.

For more that thirty years it has been fly fishing for wild trout that has given me the ultimate satisfaction. I truly believe that the time is right for the Wild Trout Society and I am honoured to be its first Chairman" Mike Weaver, Devon.

A UNITED VOICE FOR THE PROTECTION OF OUR TROUT WATERS

The Wild Trout Society's membership brings together individuals, fishing clubs and syndicates, riparian owners and people involved commercially in wild trout fishing.

WHAT WE DO:

We pursue conservation through education - raising the profile of the wild trout and issues fundamental to its welfare.

We run restoration projects, and encourage members to be active in looking after wild trout habitats and countering the influences which threaten them.

We publish trout water management guidelines which explain our central philosophy that each catchment should be managed as a whole, as well as suggesting simple techniques for maintaining, restoring and enhancing individual lakes and stretches of river.

Each year, our new Famous Grouse award recognises excellence in this field.

In all activities, we enjoy a lively exchange of ideas. We holds conference and we circulate a yearbook - which includes articles, news and a guide to the best wild trout fishing in the UK. The first edition of Salmo Trutta is a 64 page journal packed with articles on the magic of trout, river restoration techniques and wild trout waters, and contributors include Bernard Venables, Brian Clarke, David Profumo, Gordon Mackie and Lesley Crawford. A copy will be included in the welcome pack that is sent to anyone who joins the Society in 1998
